Last year, despite constraints on the economic front, clients that were coached by KZN business coach Marlene Powell found ways to recognise that there was definitely light at the end of a rather long and dark tunnel, and the majority ended their year on a successful note. To echo their success, Marlene was announced as ActionCOACH’S Global ActionMAN (woman) of the year for Africa and later in the year she was announced as South Africa’s top coach for bringing in the most testimonials from clients in a competition that was held nationally.
The Get U Noticed team 
recently attended Marlene’s first GrowthCLUB of the year. These (now virtual) events are held quarterly and attending them is a bit like attending a personal celebratory workshop. One gets to think of all the positive, exciting things that one has achieved, and is encouraged to plan ahead for an equally positive three month period in one’s business life, making sure to include a good dash of personal fulfilment.
Commented Marlene “These GrowthCLUBs were started to help clients and their management team put together and prepare their 90 day plan at week 13 of the coaching system. The purpose of the day is to assess where the business has got to on their long term plan in the last 90 days and what needs to happen in the next 90 days to move the business forwards towards achieving that plan.”
The first quarter event also concentrated on that shining light at the end of the tunnel. Says Marlene “Our Clients had to get clarity on what their light is to keep them grounded, focused and disciplined to stay on track whilst steering their way through this tunnel we call the unknown. With setting SMART written down Goals in each area of their life, identifying strategies to make their goals more realistic then breaking them down into bite size chunks on a daily and weekly basis ensuring they stay on track without distraction. In a nutshell – keeping their eye on the light at the end of the tunnel whilst sticking to their plan.”
Marlene has owned her ActionCOACH franchise for the last thirteen years, building up a solid client base, predominantly in KZN. Not only has she helped her clients to stay on top of their business issues during the pandemic, in a way of giving back to the community, Marlene has also made a point of getting her solid, down to earth advice across to SMME business owners who have battled during this time. This has been in the form of the weekly Entrepreneurs Workshops that she held (and will continue to do so through 2021) with award winning business woman, Margaret Hirsch and a carefully selected panel of guest speakers. Marlene has gone on to start up two other networking platforms to help business owners get ahead – her BizCAFE B2B monthly Business Networking meetings and her recently formed ProfitCLUB which deals specifically with marketing and sales.
