Push for new educare

FINAL PUSH FOR NEW EDUCARE CENTRE AT MOUNT MORIAH

Pre-school is the foundation of a child’s education. The skills and knowledge, aptitude and attitude that they develop in the preschool years will have a dramatic impact on a child’s success when formal schooling begins – as well as their success in life.

The Mount Moriah community, consisting of a population of well over 10,000 people, has only ever had a makeshift pre school that has had to cater for foundation phase learners in the area. The Phoenix Child Welfare Association will be overseeing the centre, and we spoke to Phoenix Child Welfare’s Saras Perumal with regards to the new Educare centre (it will also include a library and community centre) that is going up at Mount Moriah. Said Saras “The new Educare Centre that is being built with the help of some of the local businesses in the area – including Hirsch’s, Freedom Stationers and Corobrik, is going to give the community in the area a huge boost, but help is still needed for a final push to get the school finished in time for the graduation ceremony that takes place in October. We have reached roof level and are looking for donations in kind for roofing, carpentry, and plumbing material for the completion of the building.”

Said Amar Nandlal, a member of the Hirsch’s KZN Action Team who is helping to manage the project, “We are excited at how the building has taken shape, and would like to call on other Corporates in the area to help with material for the building.”

Given the magnitude of the project, Hirsch’s have started a drive collecting story books for children aged between 1 to 10 years old. Each Hirsch Store around KZN will have a collection box in their store and your contribution will be appreciated. If you feel like getting involved in this wonderful project that is going make such a positive difference in this community, kindly contact Amar (amar@hirschs.co.za) or Lallie (lallie@hirschs.co.za).
