Pre-schoolers at Greenwood Park Pre school and creche in Park Station Road were given a wonderful surprise recently when they arrived at their school to find that the once dilapidated playground had been totally transformed into a child’s play paradise! It had been kitted out with beautifully constructed jungle gyms and play equipment, and the walls in their classroom had been lovingly painted with murals from the seasons. The good natured “elves” in the community who had got together funds for the upliftment of the school and worked tirelessly over a weekend to get everything in order for the children, were the team from RE/MAX Panache in Durban North.
The project was co-ordinated by RE/MAX Panache’s Sharon Hollows who had visited the school principle, Leeann Ellis and been touched by her dedication and that of her staff despite the dire situation that the school was in. “The school was very badly in need of a general makeover, but as there was no funding from the municipality for any form of upliftment, I approached our CEO Grant Gavin to see if we could take the project under our wing. Grant agreed and we set about raising funds over a three month period. “This has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The joy on the faces of the children after the unveiling of their newlook school is something that will stay with us forever.” Said Grant.
Marshall Security joined RE/MAX Panache in their effort to uplift the school by installing an alarm system free of charge. Thanking both organisations for their generosity, Leeann said “On behalf of the staff and children I would like to say that this incredible gesture has added brightness to our lives. You have given the children a true home away from home. Thank you so very much!”
