Margaret Hirsch recently held her popular women in business virtual networking meeting with special Guest Speaker, Mathabo Kunene, a South African Icon in her own right, business woman, social entrepreneur, women’s empowerment activist, community activist and patron of the arts.
Mathabo, who is the widow of the late great South African poet, Professor Mazisi Kunene, shared her story of inspiration from her journey through exile in Los Angeles, and how she formulated a successful business with nothing but the support of her community, all whilst studying and raising a family. “Community is key , don’t be afraid to ask for help. You need to be confident enough to ask your neighbour for help. It is your community that will help you grow. Collaborate with those closest to you, this is the best advice I can give to young entrepreneurs starting out” said Mathabo.
Margaret expressed that it is so important now more than ever to work together as women. “We need to share our knowledge. I feel that women are going to grow the economy. We are the back bone of the South African economy, but we need to work together ” said Margaret.
The ladies who attended the Zoom session (which was also live on Margaret’s Facebook page) all shared their business stories and gave insight into how business has been for them. Attendee’s Zakira Palekar, who owns a successful healthy dog food company , commended the ladies on a successful event and thanked Margaret and Mathabo for being so real. “ I love what you shared today. If you say you are going to do something then just do it , no one is holding you back but yourself. Thank you.”
The women in business events are held monthly with a wide range of speakers. Attendees are always given the opportunity to share their business ideas. The next event will be held on the 27th of October.
